Listed, but Never Photographed Here

No verifiable record exists in the county's public observations. That may mean the species is not here — or that nobody has photographed it. One photograph would settle which. Species whose control is mandatory under NR 40 come first.

Why This Page Exists

The county mapped 801 wild parsnip polygons across 43 acres in its 2025 survey. The entire public photographic record of Door County holds eleven confirmed wild parsnip observations, across six years. Yellow lady's slipper alone has 766. Observers photograph what they find beautiful, and the things that need managing are close to absent.

Two of those gaps are identification problems rather than observation problems. The introduced honeysuckles are being photographed and left unconfirmed while their native lookalikes are well recorded; and only one subspecies of Phragmites australis is introduced, while most county records stop at species rank and so say neither.
